Two police officers attached to the Bariga division of the Lagos State Police Command,ASP Theophilus Otobo and Insp. Oguntoba Olamigoke have been arrested for firing the shot that led to the death of 17 years old Tina Ezekwe and the injuring of 35 years old Musa Yakubu at the Iyana-woro area of Lagos State on the 26th may,2020 at about 2245 hours.
According to the police press release signed by the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer,DSP Bala Elkana,on 29th may,the officers fired the shot from their pin down point along Berger by Third Mainland bridge,due to a circumstance yet to be confirmed.
Musa Yakubu was injured at the spot and a stray bullet hit Tina at (Berger) Iyana-woro b/stop. The bullet pierced through the left upper side of her lap. She was rushed to an undisclosed hospital by a team of policemen led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO). Tina died after two days battle to save her life.
The two officers suspected to have carried the dastardly act were arrested by the command,and they are being subjected to internal disciplinary proceedings and if found culpable they will be arraigned in court.
The Commissioner of Police,Lagos State Command,CP Hakeem Odumosu (psc) deeply sympathizes with the family and friends of the deseased person and calls for calm,while assuring the family that the perpetrators of this dastardly act will face the full weight of the law.
CP,Odumosu ended by reiterating his stance on zero tolerance for impunity.
