President of the Association of United Awori People, Staff/Sgt Nawairudeen Idowu (RTD) has urged the Lagos State govt to consider thorough inclusion of Lagos indigenes as state police initiative begins soon.

Nawairudeen who is also the head of the Association of Lagos State Indigenes, gave this advice at the weekend while addressing news men in Ikotun area of Lagos shortly after a Ramadan lecture.

According to him, the beauty of the state police scheme will be dampened if indigenes are left out of the arithmetic.

He expressed happiness that the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Bola Tinubu had accented to the all important scheme.

” It is a good thing that the president has endorsed the much expected program.

“What is left is for the relevant authorities to make proper use of the opportunity to ensure effective policing of the communities.

“In Lagos, the authorities, as a matter of necessity, must accommodate the indigines in the entire process. This he said is best through the incorporation of the traditional rulers (Obas) who know the lands and the people more than anyone else “, he advised.

Speaking on why the association is giving this admonition, Nawairudeen disclosed that in the past, agencies like the Lagos state Traffick Management Authority, LASTMA filled their workforce without meticulous thought for the sons of the land, stressing that in other states, such will not happen.

Finally, Nawairudeen condemned the situation he referred to as political emasculation of the Lagos indigenes who he said have been schematically shut out of the mainstream political leadership of their own state.
