Bothered by the precarious state of affairs and the worrisome governance style in Nigeria, academic, entrepreneur, and politician, Prof Christopher Imumolen has opined that the nation is devoid of true democracy culture.
Featuring on Rave TV’s Morning Rave recently, where the theme “When Leaders Fail the Nation – Unmasking the True Cost of Unpatriotic Governance in Nigeria” was treated, Imumolen stated that lack of patriotism is the bane of quality leadership and followership as well.
Talking about democracy in reaction to a question by the presenter, Prof Imumolen emphasized that the term democracy seems to be alien to our cultural leadership perception as a people, stressing that there is need for stakeholders to sit down together to fashion a leadership model that will really align with our ways of life as a people
In Imumolen’s view democracy does not truly operate even in the National Assembly and other places of authority, a situation he pointed equally replicates in the average Nigerian homes where heads of families also run leadership forms that don’t spell democracy.
When asked if he is of the opinion that there should be constitution reform, he averred that the need for the people of Nigeria to urgently fashion a document that will guide governance cannot be overemphasized, submitting that failure to act in that direction will sustain the present odd culture.
