The little I know about farming and agriculture, I know this much: sometimes, before a farmer begins a new planting season, the field must first be cleared.
The old growth is cut down. The unwanted vegetation is removed. In some traditional farming practices, the field may be burned to clear the ground and prepare it for new planting.
The burning is not the end of the farm.
It is preparation.
It is making room.
It is clearing the field for a new planting season.
And this is the prophetic picture I see concerning Nigeria.
When I speak of the burning down of the old system, I am not speaking of literal fire or physical destruction. I am speaking of the clearing away of an old order—old practices, structures, values and ways of doing things that can no longer serve the purpose of the new season.
THE VINEYARD OWNER IS CLEARING THE VINEYARD
And I see it even more clearly through the picture of the vineyard.
The Vine Owner is clearing the old vineyard to make room for a new planting season.
The vineyard belongs to Him.
The land belongs to Him.
The planting belongs to Him.
And the harvest belongs to Him.
But there comes a time when the stewardship of the vineyard must be examined.
Jesus gave us the parable of the unfaithful tenants in Matthew 21.
The owner planted the vineyard, prepared it and entrusted it to husbandmen. But when the time came for the fruit, the tenants acted as though the vineyard belonged to them.
They rejected the servants.
They abused the owner’s messengers.
And ultimately, they rejected the son.
The issue was not that there was no vineyard.
The issue was what the tenants had done with the vineyard entrusted to them.
And I believe this parable carries a serious prophetic lesson for this season.
A system can begin with stewardship and eventually become self-preservation.
A structure can begin with responsibility and eventually become entitlement.
A vineyard can become occupied by people who forget that they are tenants, not owners.
And when greed, disloyalty, selfishness and self-centeredness become the operating principles of stewardship, the owner has the right to intervene.
That is the picture I see.
The old vineyard is being cleared.
The system built around greed, self-interest, entitlement and self-preservation is being challenged.
And the purpose is not simply to destroy.
The purpose is to make room for a new planting and a new generation of co-laborers.
Jesus asked what the owner would do to those unfaithful tenants.
And the answer was:
“He will miserably destroy those wicked men, and will let out his vineyard unto other husbandmen, which shall render him the fruits in their seasons.”
— Matthew 21:41 KJV
Do you see the transition?
The vineyard remains.
But the stewardship changes.
The work continues.
The harvest continues.
The husbandmen change.
That is the prophetic significance.
THE BEZALELS ARE BEING CALLED
God is raising, anointing and equipping a new crop of co-laborers.
The Bezalels.
And in this Nigerian expression, we call them:
THE CREATIVE JAGUDAS
Exodus 31 tells us that God filled Bezalel with the Spirit of God:
“in wisdom, and in understanding, and in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship.”
Bezalel was a creative co-laborer with God.
God gave him the ability to take divine instruction and turn it into tangible work.
And that is the kind of people I believe this season is calling forth.
Not merely people who can talk.
People who can build.
Not merely people who can criticize.
People who can create.
Not merely people who can identify problems.
People who can solve them.
Not merely people waiting for opportunity.
People who can create opportunity.
These are the Creative Jagudas.
The new crop of co-laborers with God in nation building.
“THE HARLOTS AND TAX COLLECTORS…”
And here is another uncomfortable word from Jesus.
He said to the religious establishment of His day:
“The publicans and the harlots go into the kingdom of God before you.”
— Matthew 21:31 KJV
That was not a celebration of sin.
It was a rebuke of religious pride and self-righteousness.
Jesus was confronting people who believed their position gave them automatic ownership of God’s purposes, while those they looked down upon were responding to God’s call.
That is a warning for every generation.
Do not assume that because you have occupied the vineyard for a long time, you are automatically the people God will use for the next season.
God looks for responsive hearts.
God looks for faithful stewards.
God looks for people willing to do the work.
And sometimes the people we least expect become the people through whom God demonstrates what the new season looks like.
THE ELEVENTH-HOUR WORKERS
There is another picture that speaks powerfully to me.
Jesus told the parable of the labourers in the vineyard in Matthew 20.
Some were hired early.
Others were hired later.
And some were still standing idle at the eleventh hour.
When asked why they were still standing there, they said:
“Because no man hath hired us.”
— Matthew 20:7 KJV
That sentence speaks to an entire generation.
No man would hire them.
They had ability.
They had willingness.
They were available.
But nobody had given them an opportunity.
And I believe there are Nigerians like that.
Creative people who have been overlooked.
Young people with extraordinary ability who have never been given a platform.
Professionals whose gifts have been underutilized.
People in the diaspora who want to contribute but have never found the right channel.
People with ideas who have been told, in effect:
“Nobody needs what you carry.”
But the eleventh hour is still an hour.
And the owner of the vineyard still went out and called them.
God is calling the eleventh-hour workers.
FROM BEING HIRED TO CREATING HIRE
And this is where I see another dimension of the Creative Jagudas mandate.
Before now, there may have been no hire and no wages for many Creative Jagudas because, as the Scripture says:
“No man hath hired us.”
But this season is different.
The people who were once not hired are being called.
The people whose gifts were overlooked are being recruited.
The people who were standing idle are being given an assignment.
They are not only being hired by God.
They are being empowered to create hire for others.
That is the deeper assignment.
We are not simply asking:
“How do we get jobs for our people?”
We are asking:
“How do we create people who create jobs?”
How do we turn creativity into enterprise?
How do we turn enterprise into employment?
How do we turn skills into industries?
How do we turn ideas into opportunities?
How do we turn faith into works?
This is what I call:
THE WORK F.O.R.C.E.
The Works and Faith of the Righteous Creating Empowerment.
Because faith that produces no work remains an idea.
And work that produces no empowerment misses an important dimension of the Kingdom.
The Creative Jaguda must become a creator of hire.
A creator of opportunity.
A creator of enterprise.
A creator of solutions.
A creator of platforms through which other people can work, grow, earn and contribute.
NIGERIA’S NEW PLANTING SEASON
This is why I believe Nigeria must stop seeing its young and creative population merely as a demographic challenge.
They are a national asset.
The filmmaker can build an industry.
The designer can build a business.
The software developer can create a platform.
The farmer can build an agricultural enterprise.
The engineer can create infrastructure solutions.
The artisan can become an employer.
The entrepreneur can create jobs.
The Nigerian in the diaspora can bring knowledge, networks, capital and technology.
The young person with an idea can become a creator of opportunities for many others.
This is how a new vineyard begins to produce fruit.
THE CREATIVE JAGUDA MANDATE
Therefore, the Creative Jagudas are not coming merely to complain about the old vineyard.
We are coming to work in the new planting.
We are not coming merely to ask for jobs.
We are coming to create hire.
We are not coming merely to seek opportunities.
We are coming to create opportunities.
We are not coming merely to ask what Nigeria can give us.
We are asking what we can build for Nigeria.
This is the spirit of the Bezalels.
This is the call of the eleventh-hour workers.
This is the transition from being overlooked to becoming builders.
And this is the vision behind:
THE CREATIVE JAGUDAS
A new crop of co-laborers with God in nation building.
The vineyard is being cleared.
The old stewardship is being challenged.
The field is being prepared.
The new planting season is coming.
The Bezalels are being raised.
The eleventh-hour workers are being called.
The Creative Jagudas are being recruited.
And the mandate is not simply to be hired.
The mandate is to create hire.
This is the WORK F.O.R.C.E.
The Works and Faith of the Righteous Creating Empowerment.
So, to every Nigerian who has been waiting for someone to give you an opportunity:
Get ready.
To every creative whose gift has been overlooked:
Get ready.
To every entrepreneur carrying an idea:
Get ready.
To every Nigerian in the diaspora asking how you can contribute:
Get ready.
To every Bezalel who knows there is something in your hands that can help rebuild:
Get ready.
Because the question of this new season is no longer:
“Who will hire us?”
The question is:
“What can we build that will hire others?”
The field is being cleared.
The vineyard is being prepared.
The new planting season is here.
And the Creative Jagudas are coming to work.
