The headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission,INEC yesterday was besieged by protesters led by Professor Christopher Imumolen, former presidential candidate of Accord.

The move was to press INEC to do the needful in view of an existing Court Order on the leadership of the party.

The peaceful protesters who carried various placards with inscriptions such as ‘ obey the court, restore Professor Christopher Imumolen now; obey the court, re instate Prof Christopher Imumolen now’, were a blend of Nigerians of different ages from various walks of life; who chanted solidarity songs.

News men from different media houses such as Channels, Arise also thronged the domain of the nation’s election umpire to catch every moment of the agitation.

Speaking, Prof. Imumolen emphasized that staging the protest at INEC was not to foment trouble, but to call INEC to do the right thing.

According to Imumolen, there is no reason the INEC should treat a Court order as an advisory, stressing that a court order is meant to be obeyed.

Imumolen said, “the court is constituted by Nigeria, thus should be respected, that its orders should not be trampled upon”.

Further, he stressed that if the INEC honoured the case of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, then it should do same for Accord Party.

” INEC is a father and a regulator who should be constitutional.

“INEC should obey the court and recognize the Accord Party leader”, he declared.

Imumolen however wondered why, despite the court order, the INEC portal is still reflecting the name of another person as Accord leader.

He therefore expressed worry that Nigeria is the only country where the court is disobeyed by certain authorities.
