NATIONAL IMPACT: LIONS CLUB TARGETS SKILL ACQUISITION CENTRE IN FESTAC TOWN FURTHERANCE TO THEIR BEAUTIFUL VISIONS

New Festac Lions Club, District 404 – B4 are perfecting plans to achieve a skill acquisition centre in FESTAC Town in consolidation of their labours of love.
The plan was unveiled to newsmen at the inaugural meeting for the 2026/2027 Service Year held on Tuesday 7th July, at 207 Road, Festac Town, Lagos.

In attendance at the crucial meeting where vital matters were highlighted and treated were current/ past executives, and other distinguished lions who chanted ‘lionism’ anthem at intervals.

President of New Festac Lions Club, Lion Ikechukwu Egbo, speaking about Lions Club shortly after the parley, expressed sincere appreciations to the entire club for according him leadership opportunity in a group poised to serve humanity.
He joyfully described Lions all over the world as the best people; stressing that wherever there is a need, a Lion appears to proffer solution.

“The Lions Club was founded 109 years ago by an American, Melvin Jones out of the passion to serve humanity.
“The Lions Club have many districts doing humanitarian works, that’s why you find Lions everywhere.
“Lion does not stand for the natural animal, it is an acronym that represents people serving humanity with passion”, Lion Egbo stated.

On the skill acquisition centre being projected, Egbo expressed hope that its actualisation will not only empower the younger generation, but will also help to discourage them from social vices and evil ways which unfortunately are fast becoming attractive to the generality of our youths; describing it as a pivotal ambition of the club for the service year; emphasizing that ensuring skills for the youths means securing a bright and safe future.

As a nexus to the chat, a distinguished Lion, Evelyn Afejuku stated that if the New Festac Club achieves the skill acquisition centre, it will gladden her heart.
Afejuku noted that it would be a beautiful thing if youths are equipped with skills that can make their lives meaningful.

Elegant and eloquent Olori Bunmi Oderinde, past president of the club, in the same vein poured praises on the Lions Club, spelling out the acronym LIONS to mean Liberty, Intelligence, Our Nation, Safety.
According to Olori Oderinde, the proposed skill acquisition centre is going to augment the positive societal impacts of the New Festac Lions Club, disclosing that on record are education development empowerments, such as distribution of school bags, books, writing materials, etc in various schools.
“The Lions Club is famous for other numerous charitable deeds such as caring for people with visual challenges like Cataract – providing them with glasses, medications even surgeries.
“More so, Lions support cancer patients in various forms.
“We adopted a park here in Festac where we planted flowers, and continue too nurture for a beautiful, healthy environment”, she
affirmed.

Refreshment and a photo session was the aftermath following an earlier movement and adoption of the motion for adjournment, a step that signalled the end of proceedings.
