His unassuming ways veil his no nonsense gait, and his smooth official conducts often give him off as a tender operator…
His command of English language, even his methodical yet professional grammatical dispositions again parade him as an all time darling.
And no one can gainsay that he has a palpable dose of western education , which coincides with his amiable civil tendencies that unarguably resulted from his refinement from local and international milieus!
Like many, I was privileged to encounter him during his first (official) visit to Alimosho, Area “M” precisely – one of the microcosm of the macrocosm which the expansive Lagos state Police Command is!
Sitting in front of men and officers, as well as the avalanche of security stakeholders from the length and breadth of the obviously largest enclave of Lagos(by topography and demography), the charismatic police icon held the full capacity of the cosy hall in the palms of his hands, using the instrumentality of the fine but logical yarns that erupted from his mouth via a classical delivery not common with men of the force.
It was such a fascinating, yet captivating moment which struck even members of the Fourth Estate of the Realm there gathered , dumbfounded.
Permit me to present this fine brain at the helms of affairs for the Nigeria Police in Lagos state – Mr. Owohunwa Idowu ( Indefatigable Commissioner of Police).
The afore stated are not the magnetic characteristics of that great rendezvous, but his tender, yet intimidating speech modus operandi with which he read his riot act.
“I will respect all citizens who abide by the law, but any big man who decides to go lawless, supporting crimes and harbouring criminals will be treated like a common criminal.
“Similarly, any of my Divisional Police Officers, DPOs who violates the codes of Police ethics through forms of incivility and support for criminality will face severe penalties according to the dictates of the law”, he had softly thundered amid ovation from a proud audience who were thrilled by his raw brilliance and professional modesty.
CP Owohunwa had shown sheer dedication to the very course for which the Inspector General of Police, IGP had assigned and saddled him with the onerous duty.
As a simple man of the law, he did not bolt away in the manner some security Chief Executives would after his exhaustive lecture, he entertained questions from the people, held after an parley with his men and officers, and then showed love by waiting for a photograph session with virtually everyone.
I am tempted to conclude that his educational escapades in a super foreign Varsity endowed him with distinctive human traits, but it will be more appropriate to simply opine that he is well trained as a police officer , and got proper education resulting in his superior cum outstanding moral, intellectual and professional distinctive standing amogst a pack!
Certainly, this hypnotic COMPOL will continue his town hall meetings , preparatory to making Lagos unsafe for all criminals.
I therefore make bold to express my pride, for scripting these sincere odes(that are taller than panegyrics) , for a super cop yet seeking ways to better his best through legitimate and official obeisance – ruled by the whims and caprices of his superiors – WHO ‘KNOW’ HIM AND DRAFTED HIM FOR EXCELLENCE ON THIS BEAT.
