As the Saved Women with Amazing Grace, SWAG, an offshoot of Mothers of the Nation, held its Second Chance for Women Convention in Lagos, last Friday, its President, Dr. Priscilla Otuya, has said that while women must respect and honour their husbands, they should equally be regarded and treated as special gifts to humanity.
The event which held at the prestigious Rockview Hotel, Festac town, attracted mothers from across Lagos.
Teaching on the theme of the convention, Otuya urged the women to be the best they can as wives and mothers, but should endeavour to seek life when their marriages threaten their precious lives.
According to her, being a good or virtuous woman should not take away wisdom and the consciousness for mutual respect, responsibility and value as ordained by God.
She explained that while the “second chance for women” is aimed at encouraging women to pick up their pieces and aim for life after crises instead of wallowing in despondency or frustration, it outrightly discourages deliberate feminine recklessness, indiscipline and acts that undermine dignity and integrity.
“This event is a call for women to recognize the venerable positions of men in marriage, and to equally refuse to be frustrated or killed in their marital entanglements.
” It is wrong for husbands to turn narcissistic in marriages when they should love, respect and value their spouses as beacons of support”, Otuya reiterated.
Continuing, she stressed that when the union breaks down due to the man’s wickedness and sinfulness, the woman should never stay downtrodden, but must rise as God’s elect saved by grace, to prove that she was never a second class daughter of God.
She therefore called on men to use their authoritative stances in life to ensure respect for the women created as their forever partners in faith and human progress; stating that for instance, it is bizarre for the men to segregate against women as though Christ did not also die for them.
Chinwe Wonders, one of the speakers at the event when talking to Timeswatch, expressed joy about the program, and urged all women to stick to all Biblical ethos guiding marriages, and should not be architects of their own misfortunes as far as marriage and family are concerned, but must not offer their necks to be slit by dangerous husbands.
Similarly, Pastor Vivian Uwaoma, another participant, pointed that wives are like necks who carry the heads of their husbands, who must turn tenderly, wisely, and respectfully to avoid crises or clashes ; asserting that men should also realize that critical responsibility and sit guided.
Mother Abraham, an elderly member of SWAG Nation, simply described the teachings as a new vista of consciousness that empowers women to exercise faith and remain productive members of the society, against all odds.
Secretary of SWAG Nation, Josephine Oghenekevbe Ogufere, asked women to leverage the opportunity of SWAG to build homes, societies and remain good role models.
