The Association of Proprietors of Private Media Establishment of Nigeria, APPMEN, yesterday paid a courtesy visit to the headquarters of the National Human Rights Commission, NHRC, in Abuja.

Led by its National Coordinator, Chief Precious C. Enebuse, the APPMEN delegation was received by the Executive Secretary of the NHRC, Chief Dr. Anthony Okechukwu Ojukwu, OFR, SAN.

The visit was aimed at formally introducing the leadership of APPMEN to the Commission, exploring areas of collaboration, and extending an official invitation to the NHRC to participate in APPMEN’s flagship program, _The Aso APPMEN/Content Creators 2026 1-Day Conference_, scheduled for Thursday, September 24, 2026 in Abuja.

In his remarks, Dr. Ojukwu described the visit as “timely and strategic.” He outlined some of the Commission’s current challenges and expressed the NHRC’s willingness to partner with APPMEN on new initiatives designed to make the Commission’s activities more visible and impactful to Nigerians.

Dr. Ojukwu assured the delegation, “You can take my words to the bank — the NHRC is already partnering with APPMEN. You are going places and we are ready to work with you.”

He further called for adequate funding and the necessary legislative framework to enable the NHRC to expand its reach and impact. He noted that part of the Commission’s new initiatives include the Human Rights Fund, Development Fund, and Human Rights Emergencies Initiative. These programs are intended to drive the Commission’s mandate and provide direct support to victims of flood disasters, banditry attacks, and other crises affecting citizens and communities across the country.

He therefore appealed for the support and generous donations of well-meaning individuals and organizations to help the Commission achieve its objectives.

Both leaders agreed to formalize the partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, aimed at advancing human rights awareness, responsible media practice, and national development.

Chief Enebuse noted that APPMEN, as the umbrella body for private media owners and content creators, is committed to using its platforms to amplify human rights values and support the Commission’s mandate across the country.
