Old Students of Cardoso High School under the auspices of the Women Empowerment Group (WEP) of the Cardoso High School Old Students Association, CHSOSA, on Thursday, May 21 2026, conducted a strategic moral, social and sanitary sensitization for the female students of the junior and senior secondary school within the school Premises in Badia, Ijora Lagos.
The campaign, an annual project of the alumni targeting teenage girls, is tagged, “Pad up a girl child” Project.
As a gender sensitive awareness program, members of the Women Empowerment Team of the alumni, along with various Set Leaders were on ground to educate the girls on menstrual health, use of Sanitary pads, morality, discipline, etc.
The event proper was preceeded by a talk on “The Dangers of Teenage Pregnancy” delivered by Dr. Lanre Ekunjimi, a specialist gynecologist and obstetrician who is also an old student of the School. The talk also focused on safety and security lessons to help the students detect social or domestic molestation and /or abuse, so they can be equipped to report such tendencies from the opposite sex appropriately to parents, guardians or other trusted female teachers.
Information on what to do in a situation when their reports are treated with levity were also provided.
The high point of the event was the free distribution of over 8000 pieces of sanitary pads to the female students of the junior and the senior school;
Other gift items distributed at the event included water bottles, books, crayons, plastic bowls, etc.
In a speech to kickstart the event, the President of CHSOSA, Mr Lucky Nwadei emphasized that the alumni has, over the years, been committed to organising support programs and projects in the school as a way of improving the educational facilities as well as positively impacting the lives of the current students in Cardoso High School.
In the past, overhead water tanks, writing materials, computers, white boards and markers, jerseys, and a host of other items had been presented to the school by the alumni.
Female students and teachers spoken to at the end of program expressed delight at having been part of the program, and were full of gratitude to the alumni for always showing up to improve the lot of the school.
